KANEOHE, HAWAII -- Senior pitcher Jodi Miller picked a fine time to pitch her finest game as a Cougar.
The Oregon native scattered 2 hits over 7 innings and struck out 7 to lead Azusa Pacific to a 1-0 victory over NCAA Division II Hawaii-Hilo in the semifinals of the Koolau Classic Softball Tournament.
Freshman Sasha Budde lifted a fly ball to left field to score Jennifer Powell from third base with 2 outs in the bottom of the sixth for the game's only run.
Hilo's Abby Padasdao led off the top of the seventh with a double to left field to immediately put the pressure on the Cougars. However, Miller rose to the occassion and retired the next 3 Vulcans, including 2 by strikeout to preserve the win and the shutout, her third of the young season.
The Cougars managed just 4 hits themselves, all singles. Junior Alisa Arrigoni was 2-for-2. Budde was 1-for-2 with 1 RBI.
The victory evened the Cougars' record at 5-5 on the season and put Azusa Pacific into the tourney championship game against NCAA Division II power Hawaii Pacific.
