AZUSA, CALIF. – The NAIA's No. 5-ranked Point Loma Nazarene went on a 29-5 run over the final game-and-a-half and run away from No. 18 Azusa Pacific for a 10-15, 15-11, 15-6, 15-3 GSAC victory.
Point Loma's Jamie Robinson tallied 9 of her match-high 30 kills in the fourth game, while teammate Natalie Allison added 23 kills for the match. With the victory, the Crusaders maintain a 1-match lead over second-place Fresno Pacific in the GSAC standings with 2 matches left to play.
Azusa Pacific looked sharp in the early going, both on offense and defense. Freshman
Jenna Sagehorn, who led the Cougars with 20 kills, registered 7 in the first game as the Cougars used a 5-1 run over the last part of the game to jump out to an early 1-0 match lead.
In the second game, back-to-back Crusader blocks by Allison and Nicole Wright broke a 9-9 tie and sent Point Loma on a 6-2 run to win the game and even the match.
In the third game, the 2 teams played to a 5-5 tie before Azusa Pacific began to wilt, surrendering 8 straight points. The Cougars never recovered and Point Loma skated on it for its ninth straight
win over Azusa Pacific.
Point Loma improves to 26-4 overall, 15-1 in the GSAC. Azusa Pacific falls to 18-8 overall, 8-7 in the GSAC.
