GLENDORA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific shuffled the lineup and gave everyone a chance to play, but it did not affect the outcome as the Cougars rolled to a 7-1 win over Hope International in a nonconference women's tennis match Wednesday afternoon at Glen Oaks Racquet Club in Glendora.
"This was a good chance to let some of our other girls get matches in," said Cougar coach Mark Bohren. "The team continues to improve."
Because the Royals had only 4 players, Azusa Pacific was able to give its top two players, Birgitte Brubakken and Eva Dvorakova, a rest and let the bottom of the lineup play a match.
The Cougars got good results as Ann Thomas (6-1, 6-1) and Cortney Andersen (6-1, 6-1) each posted wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Michelle Solt, normally the Cougars' No. 4 player, played No. 1 and defeated Sharyn Raby, 6-0, 6-1.
The Royals' lone win came at No. 2 singles, where Denise Silva upended Amy Lemm in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
With the shortage of players, Hope International defaulted at No. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles for the final 7-1 count.
With the victory, Azusa Pacific improves to 9-4 on the year. The Cougars are next in action Saturday when they host Lewis and Clark at 3 p.m.
