Strength At Top Leads Cougars

LA HABRA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific used the strength at the top of its lineup to overpower Biola, 6-3, in a Golden State Athletic Conference women's tennis match Friday afternoon at La Habra Tennis Center.

Birgitte Brubakken (6-1, 6-0) and Eva Dvorakova (6-0, 6-1) posted solid wins at the No. 1 and 2 singles slots, and also teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, accounting for 3 of the Cougars' 6 victories on the day.

Michelle Solt and Patty Guinto accounted for the other 3 wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. Both also had an easy time in singles, with Solt winning, 6-1, 6-1, and Guinto winning 6-1, 6-2. The two teamed for an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over Jennifer Roy and Melissa Lynch.

The closest match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Biola's Jennifer Roy rallied from a set down to beat Azusa Pacific's Carrie Nordin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 5-2 overall, 3-2 in the GSAC, while Biola falls to 1-6, 0-4 In the GSAC. The Cougars are next in action March 6 at home against Westmont.
