"I thought we competed most of the time, but the artistry was not there," said Cougar head coach Bill Odell. "We played stupidly and did not take care of the basketball."

Walker, who was sick and did not practice on Friday, scored 15 of his season-high 24 in the second half, to fend off a pesky Lancer team. He also was 13-of-19 from the free throw line.

"I was sick and I was tired and I didn't practice yesterday, but I thought I could at least play defense," said Walker. "It wasn't pretty but at least we got out of here with a win."

After the Lancers cut the lead to 64-61, sophomore guard Corey Smith hit a 3-pointer to give the Cougars a 67-61 lead. The closest the Lancers would get again was an 8-point deficit (91-83), but the Cougars hit 12-of-16 free throws down the stretch.

Daley controlled the game in the first half, scoring 11 points and grabbing 7 rebounds.

"We made some runs but we couldn't ever put them away," said Daley. "If we would have played smarter, it would have been a whole lot easier."

The Cougars shattered 2 school records. They shot 62 free throws breaking the old mark of 51 attempts vs. Cal Baptist in 1975. Their 43 free throws made broke the old mark of 39 against So. Cal College in 1975.

The Cougars, 16-3 and 3-1 in GSAC will take on GSAC front-runner Biola Tuesday night in La Mirada. Cal Baptist drops to 12-9, 1-3 in conference play.
