CLAREMONT, CALIF -- All-American Carlos Ochoa scored two goals, the first being only 25 seconds into the match, as 12th-ranked Azusa Pacific (5-1-1) knocked off Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday afternoon in nonconference action, 3-1 in Claremont.
Ochoa collected a loose ball that Jason Roufs had challenged for, took one dribble and tucked the ball away into the corner of the net. Only 90 seconds later, Will Cummins collected the ball in the penalty box off a Matt Evans throw-in and put the Cougars up 2-0.
It was Ochoa again in the 25th minute as Evans rifled a corner kick directly to him near the back post and powered it past the sprawling keeper to make it 3-0. The Stags did get on the board late in the second half, but never threatened again.
The Cougars hit the road next weekend when they go to Birmingham, Ala. for two games. They play host Birmingham-Southern on Friday, Sept. 25th at 8 p.m. and then Berry College the next night in Birmingham at 6 p.m., both times EST.
