AZUSA, CALIF. -- The NAIA"s No. 18-ranked Azusa Pacific reduced its magic number for an unprecedented fifth straight GSAC championship to one game with an easy 105-70 victory over Cal Baptist Friday night in Azusa.
The Cougars now lead second-place Biola and Southern California College by a game-and-a-half with 2 conference games to play.
Dameon Page led Azusa Pacific with 20 points, followed by Jeremy DeVries' 16 off the bench.
Azusa Pacific jumped out to a 26-8 lead in the first 11 minutes of the game and then doubled up on Cal Baptist, leading 54-27 at the half.
Micah Sullivan scored all 13 of his points in the opening half to lead the Cougars to the comfortable margin.
The Lancers, who were paced by Dennis Weaver's 18 points, never threatened Azusa Pacific in the second half.
All 12 Cougars scored. Matt Zaengle added 13 points for the Azusa Pacific cause and led a Cougar bench that outscored Cal Baptist's reserves 58-17.
The victory was Azusa Pacific's 15th straight at home. Over the past 2 years the Cougars are 27-1 in Azusa.
Azusa Pacific improves to 23-7 overall, 10-2 in the GSAC. Cal Baptist fall to 6-20 overall, 1-11 in the GSAC.
