Concordia Stuns Cougars for First GSAC Win

AZUSA, CALIF. -- Concordia University, which came in to tonight's match with Azusa Pacific winless in 10 GSAC matches, surprisingly swept the Cougars on the road, 15–12, 15–9, 16-14, Tuesday night for the Eagles' first conference win of the 1997 campaign.

The Eagles were led by Sarah Roberts, who pounded home 11 kills. Jamie Gast also added eight kills and 11 digs. For the Cougars, Kelly Dryden had eight kills while Izzy Bolles had eight kills and 16 digs.

Azusa Pacific led 10–6 in the third game before the Eagles recorded seven straight points to take a 13-10 lead. The Cougars pulled within one, at 13-12, and then tied the match at 14-all, before Concordia scored the final two points to seal the match victory.

 The victory for Concordia was only the fourth all time against Azusa Pacific and was the first one in Azusa since 1988

With the victory, Concordia is now 5–22 overall, 1–10 in the GSAC, while the Cougars drop to 7–14 overall, 2-9 in the GSAC.

Azusa Pacific is home Saturday night when the Cougars host Southern California College.
