Fresno Pacific Makes Short Work of the Cougars

AZUSA, CALIF. -- The NAIA's No. 4–ranked Fresno Pacific used a potent offensive attack to sweep Azusa Pacific, 15–3, 15–6, 15–12, in a GSAC volleyball match in Azusa Saturday afternoon

The Sunbirds were paced by Ge Xin, who had 24 kills and just to errors. Qin Wen added 11 kills and 11 digs for Fresno Pacific. For the Cougars, who were without starting setter Tiffany Turner who was out for the year with a torn Achilles tendon, Jennifer French had seven kills and Izzy Bolles had seven kills and 10 digs.

Fresno Pacific scored the last 10 points of the first game to close it out, 15-3, before scoring the first five of the second game to complete a run of 15 consecutive points. The Cougars battled in the third game, jumping out to a 7–3 lead before the Sunbirds knotted it again at eight a piece and then again at 12–all before scoring the final three points to finish the sweep.

The victory for Fresno Pacific is the 12th straight in Azusa, dating all the way back to 1984 and the ninth straight win over the Cougars overall.

With victory, Fresno Pacific improved to 21–2 overall, 8–2 in the GSAC, while Azusa Pacific, which had lost sixth straight, falls  to 7–13 overall, 2-8 in the GSAC.

The Cougars are home next week for two matches meeting Concordia on Tuesday and Southern California College on Saturday.
