Cal Baptist Drubs the Cougars

AZUSA, CALIF. -- California Baptist took advantage of an injury-riddled Azusa Pacific to sweep the Cougars, 15–4, 15–6, 15-12, Saturday night in Azusa. The Cougars were without the services of starters Tiffany Turner and Jennifer French, both of whom were sidelined with ankle injuries.

Cal Baptist was led by Senior Shari Stegall, who pounded down 12 kills. Stegall was also the leader on defense as she had 14 digs. Azusa Pacific was led by sophomore Kerri Rivas, who had seven kills while Izzy Bolles had 11 digs. Also for the Cougars, Kelly Dryden had four blocks.

California Baptist just jumped out to a quick 9–0 lead in the first game, a game that took just 15 minutes. After cruising through the second game, the Lancers found them selves down 10 Dash three in the third game before knotting the contest at 12-all. The Lancers then scored the final three points to win the match.

With the victory, the Lancers have won eight of the past 11 meetings against Azusa Pacific.

Also with the victory, Cal Baptist improved to 7-9 overall, 3–4 in the GSAC, while Azusa Pacific falls to 7–9 overall, 2–5 and the GSAC. The Cougars travel to La Mirada on Oct. 14 to take on NAIA's No. 5-ranked Biola.
