PASADENA, Calif. – Less than 24 hours after coming up short at home, Azusa Pacific got reacquainted with an opponent they had not seen since the 1970s, falling 3-0 to Caltech Wednesday afternoon at North Field.

The host Beavers got going early, scoring in just the second minute.  The Cougars settled down into a first half that was largely even the rest of the way, but the score would remain 1-0 in Caltech's favor as the Cougars experimented with a lineup that was missing several starters.

Caltech would again strike quickly after intermission, doubling their advantage less than three minutes into the second half, and tacking on a third in the closing minutes of the contest.

The Cougars were outshot 13-10 for the game, including 5-2 in shots on goal.  Jacob Cristo got the start in net for Azusa Pacific, making two saves in the contest.  Jeremiah Botros and Ivan Vitela had the two attempts on target for the visitors, both occurring in the opening 20 minutes of the match.  All 11 starters for Azusa Pacific played over an hour, and they only used two subs, again due to having played a full game the night before. 

The Cougars had shut out Caltech in each of their four previous encounters, though the most recent of those came in 1978.

Now 4-3-1 on the season, the Cougars will look to snap their current two-game skid on Saturday when they host Occidental, looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat from the season opener.  Kickoff at the Cougar Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
