Jacob Freer and Tyler Preece Earn ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II West All-Region Honors

Cougar duo recognized among the top players in the West Region following standout 2026 seasons

AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific Baseball placed two players on the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II West All-Region teams, as Jacob Freer earned Second Team honors and Tyler Preece was selected to the Third Team following strong 2026 campaigns.

Freer emerged as one of the top shortstops in the PacWest Conference during his sophomore season, appearing in all 56 games for the Cougars while serving as a consistent presence near the top of the lineup.

The sophomore finished the year batting .344 with 74 hits, 47 runs scored, 12 doubles, eight home runs and 39 RBIs while posting a .929 OPS. He also added 23 walks and five stolen bases during his breakout campaign.

Freer elevated his production during conference play, batting .355 with 60 hits and 31 RBIs in 44 PacWest games. Defensively, he anchored the middle infield with 133 assists and helped turn 28 double plays throughout the season.

Preece also earned regional recognition after one of the most versatile and productive seasons on the roster. The graduate student played multiple positions throughout the year while becoming one of APU's top offensive contributors.

He finished the season batting .378 with a 1.131 OPS, totaling 62 hits, 49 runs scored, 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 39 RBIs in 47 games. Preece also posted a .472 on-base percentage and a .659 slugging percentage while striking out just 12 times all season.

In PacWest play, Preece was even more dominant, hitting .382 with 10 home runs and a 1.176 OPS across 35 conference games. His ability to impact games offensively while filling multiple defensive roles made him one of the conference's most valuable players.

Both players previously earned All-PacWest recognition and played major roles in helping Azusa Pacific finish the season 26–30 overall and 23–21 in conference play.

The ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and recognize the top performers across NCAA Division II baseball.
