Biography

 2026: Freer followed up an impressive freshman campaign with a breakout sophomore season, establishing himself as one of the top shortstops in the PacWest Conference and earning ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II West All-Region Second Team and All-PacWest Second Team honors. He appeared in all 56 games for the Cougars, batting .344 with 74 hits, 12 doubles, eight home runs, and 39 RBIs while scoring 47 runs. Freer also posted a .929 OPS and a .430 on-base percentage, continuing to provide consistency at the top of Azusa Pacific’s lineup.

2025: Freer had a standout debut season as a true freshman, appearing in 48 games and making 45 starts as a cornerstone of the Cougars' infield. He batted .272 with 9 doubles, a triple, and two home runs, while driving in 13 runs. A disciplined presence at the plate, he drew 20 walks and maintained a .362 on-base percentage. Defensively, he was a vacuum on the left side of the infield, recording 121 assists and 50 putouts to finish with a .966 fielding percentage.

During his high school and club career, Freer established a reputation for both defensive reliability and offensive consistency:

  • League Honors: A three-time All-4A KingCo League selection, capped by Second-Team honors at shortstop as a senior in 2024.

  • High School Success: Led Newport to the 2024 State Tournament; previously earned Newport’s Offensive MVP (2023) after leading the team in batting (.315) and Newport’s Defensive Player of the Year (2022) with only one error in 75 chances.

  • Championship Pedigree: Won back-to-back Washington State Legion Tournaments in 2023 and 2024 while playing for Lakeside Recovery under coaches Rob Reese and Brad Files.

  • Scouting Profile: Ranked as the #6 shortstop in Washington by Baseball Northwest; showcased elite athleticism with a 98th percentile med-ball throw and a fastball that reached 88 mph on the mound.

  • Summer Ball: Competed for the Arroyo Seco Saints in the California Collegiate League, where he batted .339 with 22 RBIs during the 2025 summer season.

Notable Performances As a high school senior, Freer proved to be a dual-threat asset, batting .325 with a team-high 20 RBIs while simultaneously serving as the team's closer, recording five saves in eight appearances with a 0.84 ERA.

Personal Born on March 13, 2006, Jacob is the son of Chris and Meeae Freer and has a younger brother, David. He is majoring in Finance with aspirations of becoming a financial advisor. Outside of baseball, he enjoys golfing, spikeball, going to the beach, and watching sports.
