Cornerstone Sweep

Cougars overcome doubles deficit with dominant singles sweep to secure Cornerstone Cup victory.

AZUSA, Calif. — No. 23 Azusa Pacific women's tennis delivered a strong statement performance Thursday afternoon, defeating Biola 6–1 at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex to improve to 18–2 on the season.

Biola grabbed early momentum by claiming the doubles point, winning at Nos. 2 and 3. Azusa Pacific's top duo of Stina Larsson and Karola Suviste earned a 6–4 win at No. 1, but the Eagles held the early 1–0 advantage.
The Cougars quickly flipped the match in singles—and never looked back.

No. 34 Stina Larsson set the tone at the top of the lineup with a commanding 6–4, 6–2 victory at No. 1 singles, leveling the match. Vini Bautista followed with a composed 6–4, 6–4 win at No. 2, and Karola Suviste added another straight-set victory at No. 3 (6–2, 6–4) to give APU full control.

Azusa Pacific continued to dominate in the middle and lower courts. Shannele Lopez battled through a three-set match at No. 4, winning 6–1, 1–6, 6–4, while Melis Mert added another three-set victory at No. 5.
The final point came from Kimberly Tran at No. 6, who closed out a tough three-set battle to complete the 6–1 victory.
