AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific men's tennis delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping Hawai'i Hilo 7–0 at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex.
The Cougars set the tone early in doubles play. The No. 1 pairing of Soeren Grandke and Mathys Pinoit secured a convincing 6–2 win to put APU on the board. Viktor Van Craenenbroeck and David James Brownlee followed with a 6–3 victory at No. 2, while Hawai'i Hilo picked up the remaining match at No. 3.
Order of finish (doubles): 1, 3, 2
It carried that momentum into singles play, where the Cougars controlled the lineup from top to bottom.
Joan Crespo was first off the court at No. 4 singles, rolling to a 6–0, 6–2 victory. David James Brownlee quickly added another point at No. 3 with a decisive straight-set win, and Mathys Pinoit followed with a 6–3, 6–4 victory at No. 2.
At the top of the lineup, No. 8-ranked Soeren Grandke secured the fourth point with a 6–4, 7–5 win at No. 1. Jacob Rudd-Hicks battled through a three-set super tiebreak to win at No. 6, and Viktor Van Craenenbroeck capped the sweep with a straight-set victory at No. 5.
