APU Rolls Past Hope International, 7–0

AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific men's tennis delivered another commanding performance Thursday afternoon, sweeping Hope International 7–0 at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex in a match that showcased the Cougars' ranked depth across the lineup.

The Cougars set the tone early in doubles play. The No. 11-ranked Division II tandem of Soeren Grandke and Mathys Pinoit capped the doubles point with a 6–3 win at No. 1 over Hope International's pairing that featured NAIA No. 40 Reid Lizardo. Earlier, Viktor Van Craenenbroeck and David James Brownlee dominated at No. 2 doubles with a 6–1 victory, while Joan Crespo and Christopher Marci secured a 6–3 win at No. 3.

Singles play continued the Cougars' momentum.

David James Brownlee delivered the fastest result of the afternoon at No. 3 singles, overwhelming his opponent 6–0, 6–0 in just 51 minutes to put APU on the board early. Joan Crespo followed with another decisive win at No. 4 (6–0, 6–2), and No. 8-ranked Soeren Grandke controlled the top court with a 6–4, 6–3 victory.

The Cougars continued to stack points as Jacob Rudd-Hicks added a straight-set win at No. 6 and Viktor Van Craenenbroeck handled business at No. 5.

The final match of the day proved to be the longest battle. No. 61-ranked Mathys Pinoit faced Lizardo in a tightly contested match at No. 2 singles. After splitting the first two sets, Pinoit prevailed in dominant fashion, closing out the 10–4 breaker after 1 hour and 41 minutes to complete the sweep.

Order of finish (singles): 3, 4, 1, 6, 5, 2

The dual lasted 2 hours and 21 minutes as it showcased its strength from top to bottom, improving to 8–4 on the season.

With multiple ranked players leading the charge, the Cougars continue to build momentum as they head deeper into the spring schedule.
