APU Sweeps Point Loma at Home as Women’s and Men’s Tennis Deliver Statement Wins

No. 15 Cougars women knock off No. 17 PLNU, 5–2, while No. 9 APU men dominate Point Loma, 6–1, in a Saturday doubleheader in Azusa.

AZUSA, Calif. -

Azusa Pacific tennis put together a statement afternoon at home on Saturday, as No. 15 APU women's tennis and No. 9 APU men's tennis both earned convincing victories over Point Loma at the Azusa courts.

Women's Tennis: No. 15 APU 5, No. 17 Point Loma 2

The No. 15 Cougars women battled through a competitive showdown against No. 17 Point Loma, pulling away in singles play for a 5–2 victory.

APU opened the match by splitting doubles play, highlighted by a strong 6–3 win at No. 1 doubles from Karola Suviste and Stina Larsson. Although Point Loma captured the doubles point, the Cougars quickly flipped the script once singles began.

Azusa Pacific responded with four singles wins, including clutch performances throughout the lineup. Stina Larsson rallied at No. 1 singles to secure a three-set victory, while Vini Bautista followed with a straight-sets win at No. 2. Karola Suviste delivered another point at No. 3, and Shannele Lopez sealed the dual with a hard-fought three-set win at No. 4.

Despite Point Loma earning a point at No. 6 singles, the Cougars' depth proved decisive as APU clinched the match in the middle of the lineup.
Order of finish (singles): 6, 1, 5, 2, 4

With the win, Azusa Pacific University continued its strong early-season form against ranked opposition, while Point Loma Nazarene University battled through a tightly contested road match.

Men's Tennis: No. 9 APU 6, Point Loma 1

Later in the day, the No. 9 Azusa Pacific men delivered a dominant performance, rolling past Point Loma 6–1 behind a complete effort across both doubles and singles play.

The Cougars set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches, earning quick victories at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 to claim the doubles point. The momentum carried straight into singles, where APU wasted little time clinching the dual.

Soeren Grandke and David James Brownlee earned commanding straight-set wins at the top of the lineup, while Viktor Van Craenenbroeck, Ben Behrend, and Jacob Rudd-Hicks added points in decisive fashion. Point Loma's lone win came in an extended battle at No. 3 singles, but it did little to slow the Cougars' charge.
Order of finish (singles): 1, 4, 6, 2, 3
