APU Powers Past Redlands

Cougars rebound after doubles split, win four singles matches to secure victory at the Verdieck Tennis Center.

REDLANDS, Calif. — No. 17 Azusa Pacific earned a strong 4–1 road victory over Redlands on Thursday evening at the Verdieck Tennis Center.

The Cougars battled in doubles play, splitting the first two courts before clinching the point at No. 3. Mariana Reveles Arreola and Vini Bautista edged their opponents 7–5 at No. 2 doubles, and Kimberly Tran and Tia Kaukenas delivered a dominant 6–0 win at No. 3 to secure the early 1–0 lead.

Redlands answered at No. 1 singles, but Azusa Pacific controlled the remainder of the lineup.

Karola Suviste got the Cougars on track in singles with a straight-sets win at No. 2, 6–0, 6–4. Kimberly Tran followed with a 6–0, 6–5 victory at No. 3, while Melis Mert added another point at No. 4 with a convincing 6–3, 6–1 performance.

The clinching point came from Mariana Reveles Arreola at No. 5 singles, as she secured a straight-sets victory to seal the 4–1 result for Azusa Pacific.
