AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific University Athletics has been officially approved to begin the NCAA Division III reclassification process, following action taken during the February 17–18, 2026 virtual meeting of the NCAA Division III Membership Committee.
With the committee's approval, APU will formally enter the NCAA Division III reclassification process on September 1, 2026, aligning with the start of the 2026–27 academic year.
The transition to NCAA Division III reflects a strategic commitment to aligning athletics with the university's mission while emphasizing academic excellence, competitive balance, and the holistic student-athlete experience. Division III institutions sponsor broad-based athletic opportunities while maintaining a primary focus on education and campus integration.
Throughout the reclassification process, APU Athletics will continue to provide a championship-caliber experience while working through required compliance benchmarks, educational initiatives, and operational alignment with NCAA Division III standards.
