No. 13 APU Falls to Hawai‘i Pacific

Cougars earn singles wins from Suviste and Lopez but Sharks capitalize early to secure PacWest victory.

KONA, Hawai'i — No. 13 Azusa Pacific women's tennis dropped a 5–2 decision to Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday morning in PacWest action, concluding its Hawai'i road swing at the Kona courts.

Hawai'i Pacific (4–2) seized early momentum by claiming the doubles point. The Sharks earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before APU's tandem of Vini Bautista and Mariana Reveles Arreola picked up a 6–3 victory at No. 3.
Order of finish (doubles): 3, 1, 2

Trailing 1–0 entering singles, the Cougars battled but could not overcome the early deficit.

Karola Suviste delivered a strong three-set win at No. 3 singles, rallying for a 7–5, 3–6, 6–2 victory to put Azusa Pacific on the board. Shannele Lopez added another point at No. 4 with a competitive straight-set win, 7–6, 6–3.

However, the Sharks secured singles victories at Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 to clinch the match. At the top of the lineup, Stina Larsson pushed her match to three sets before falling 6–3, 5–7, 6–3 in a tightly contested battle.

Order of finish (singles): 2, 5, 4, 6, 3, 1

With the result, Azusa Pacific moves to 6–2 overall, while Hawai'i Pacific improves to 4–2.
