Cougars Clinch PacWest Tournament Berth

APU shoots 51.9 percent and holds Chaminade to 24.2 percent in 66–45 victory at McCabe Gym.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i — Azusa Pacific left no doubt on the island Tuesday night, rolling past Chaminade 66–45 to officially clinch a spot in the PacWest Tournament at McCabe Gym.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 18-7 overall and 14-4 in conference play, while Chaminade falls to 0-22 (0-18 PacWest).

APU set the tone immediately, holding the Silverswords to just two first-quarter points and building a 14-2 lead after 10 minutes. The Cougars never trailed, leading for 39:30 of the contest, and extended the margin to 27-12 at halftime before breaking the game open in the third quarter with a 22-point frame.

The Cougars were efficient offensively, shooting 27-of-52 (51.9 percent) from the field, including a blistering 71.4 percent in the third quarter alone. Defensively, APU smothered Chaminade, limiting the Silverswords to just 15-of-62 shooting (24.2 percent) and 5-of-33 (15.2 percent) from three-point range.

Elyse Mitchell led the way with 14 points off the bench on 6-of-11 shooting. Lauren Jones added 12 points on 5-of-8 from the field, including two three-pointers, while Rachel Roderick contributed 10 points and four rebounds. Rome Falcocchia chipped in nine points on an efficient 4-of-5 performance.

APU controlled the paint (36-16) and generated 14 points off turnovers while also getting 34 points from its bench unit, showcasing depth and defensive pressure throughout the night.

The Cougars' biggest lead reached 24 points midway through the third quarter, and they maintained double-digit control the rest of the way to secure their postseason berth.

With a tournament spot now locked in, Azusa Pacific turns its attention to strengthening its seeding and building momentum heading into PacWest Tournament play.
