Cougars Drop Both to CSUDH

APU goes 0-2 on the day, losing Game One 1-11 and Game Two 2-12

AZUSA, Calif. – The Cougars dropped both games in a doubleheader vs Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday evening.

Game One: Azusa Pacific 1, CSUDH 11

The Toros struck first, scoring twice in the top of the second to take an early 2-0 lead.

Azusa Pacific answered in the fourth. Hannah Tiptop singled up the middle, then advanced to second on a Cougar ground out. Alexus Corona singled to left field to score Tipton, giving the Cougars their only run of the game.

Cal State Dominguez Hills broke the game open in the fifth, using a string of hits and timely extra-base damage to plate five runs and extend the lead to 7-1.

The Toros added insurance in the seventh, capitalizing on traffic and pushing four more runs across to stretch the margin to 11-1.

Game Two: Azusa Pacific 2, CSUDH 12

Cal State Dominguez Hills broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning and rolled past Azusa Pacific 12-2.

Locked in a 1-1 tie heading to the fourth, the Toros sent 10 to the plate and capitalized on free bases and timely hits to seize control and make it a 7-1 game.

APU's Reagan Kunkle provided the Cougars' offense, tripling home a run in the second and then launching a solo homer in the fifth to cut it to 7-2, but Dominguez Hills answered late. In the seventh, the Toros plated five more, highlighted by Dominguez's three-run double to left to push the lead to double digits.

Up Next: APU will return home to host Cal State San Marcos in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 14. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 1:00 p.m.
