Larsson, Suviste extend 21-match unbeaten streaks while Tran opens her APU career 5–0 in singles at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex.

AZUSA, Calif. - #15 Azusa Pacific continued its dominant start to the 2026 season on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping Cal State LA 7–0 at the Munson & Bayougian Tennis Complex to improve to 5–0 overall.

The Cougars controlled the dual from the outset, capturing the doubles point with wins across all three courts. Karola Suviste and Stina Larsson set the tone at No. 1 doubles with a decisive 6–1 victory, followed by strong performances from Shannele Lopez and Melis Mert at No. 2 and Tia Kaukenas and Vini Bautista at No. 3.

Singles play was equally dominant.

At the top of the lineup, Stina Larsson delivered a flawless 6–0, 6–0 victory at No. 1 singles. The win pushes Larsson to 5–0 this season and extends her singles unbeaten streak to 21 consecutive matches dating back to last year.

Right behind her, Karola Suviste cruised to a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles (6–2, 6–1), improving to 5–0 on the year and also stretching her singles own unbeaten streak to 21 straight matches spanning back to last season.

Depth across the lineup continued to shine. Shannele Lopez earned a 6–2, 6–1 win at No. 4, Kimberly Tran dominated 6–1, 6–0 at No. 5, and Melis Mert blanked her opponent 6–0, 6–0 at No. 6. Tran's victory moves her to 5–0 to start her APU singles career, highlighting her immediate impact in the Cougar lineup.

The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 2 singles, where Vini Bautista battled through a third-set tiebreak to secure the final point of the sweep.

With the shutout, APU remains unbeaten at 5–0, while CSULA falls to 0–1.
