SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific continued its surge through PacWest play on Saturday night, earning a 71–60 road win over Westmont at Murchison Gymnasium for its fourth straight victory.
After a tightly contested first half that saw the teams trade momentum and head into the break with Westmont holding a one-point edge, the Cougars took control coming out of the locker room. Azusa Pacific delivered its best stretch of the night in the third quarter, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and knocking down three triples to flip the game and build a lead it would not relinquish.
Lauren Jones led the way with a game-high 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while Audrey Sayoc added 12 points and dished out two assists to fuel the offense. Elyse Mitchell provided a spark off the bench with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, helping APU outscore Westmont 24–18 in bench points.
Azusa Pacific's efficiency proved to be the difference, as the Cougars shot 55.3% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc, while holding Westmont to just 31.8% shooting for the game. APU also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 23 points off Warrior miscues, and closed the door at the free-throw line by going a perfect 5-for-5 in the fourth quarter.
Westmont was paced by Mariah Brown, who scored 15 points, but the Warriors struggled to keep pace offensively in the second half as APU steadily extended its advantage.
