Galinis Repeats as PacWest Runner of the Week

Senior Kyle Galinis earns back-to-back PacWest Runner of the Week awards as his is recognized as Team of the Week after a top-three finish at The Master’s Invitational.

AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific continues to build momentum early in the 2025 season, earning a sweep of PacWest honors this week as senior Kyle Galinis was named Runner of the Week for the second straight meet, while the Cougars were recognized as the PacWest Team of the Week following a standout performance at The Master's Invitational in Santa Clarita.

Galinis, a senior from Newark, Calif., has now placed fourth overall in consecutive weeks, backing up his personal-best race at the Biola Invitational (24:20) with another top finish at The Master's Invitational. Running just one second off that career-best, Galinis clocked 24:21 on the Central Park course, finishing behind only a pair of athletes from No. 1 nationally ranked The Master's (NAIA) and Embry Riddle's Dillon Eisner.

After earning Third Team All-PacWest honors a season ago, Galinis has made himself an early-season frontrunner in the conference title race, with back-to-back performances among some of the nation's strongest collegiate fields.

As a unit, Azusa Pacific once again proved itself as the top Division II team in the field, placing third out of 20 teams with 64 points. The Cougars outpaced several ranked opponents, including No. 13 Cal Poly Pomona by 72 points, while also finishing as the fastest PacWest school by more than 107 points ahead of Fresno Pacific, Westmont, and Vanguard.

The Cougars packed their top five tightly near the front, with Galinis in fourth and Aaron Lakeman right behind in fifth (24:49). Jonas Teeter continued his strong start with a 13th-place finish (25:18), followed by Erick Leal in 19th (25:32). Freshman Isaiah Cowan rounded out the scoring five in 23rd, puttting their scoreres all withing the top-25 finishers.
