IRVINE, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 7-1 loss to Concordia in the opening round of the PacWest Championships on Wednesday evening at the Golden Eagles Field.
Julia Doan gave the Cougars a brief spark with a solo home run at the top of the first, but the Golden Eagles responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half and never looked back. A three-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the fourth accounted for the bulk of Concordia's offense as the Golden Eagles piled up 10 hits.
Azusa Pacific collected seven hits in the game, including two from Doan,
Izzy Rivera, and
Hailey Burns.
Caitlin DeCanio tacked on one hit.
Mia Castillo took the loss after recording just two outs in the first inning.
Ava Hernandez entered in relief and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits.
Allie Reese closed out the final inning with a scoreless frame.
Up Next: With the loss, Azusa Pacific will play Dominican in an elimination game on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. The winner will keep its tournament hopes alive, and play at 5:00 p.m to get a shot at the championship game, while the loser will be sent home.
