INDIANAPOLIS – After going undefeated against PacWest opponents in the regular season, the Azusa Pacific men's and women's tennis teams both earned the No. 1 spot in the first set of NCAA Division II tennis regional rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Since no more matches are scheduled between the announcement on the May 5 selection show, there are no changes expected. That means that the Cougars will host the No. 4 seeds, which is Biola on the women's side and Hawai`i Pacific on the men's side.
The men's regional matches are set for May 9-10, while the women will compete on May 12-13. Exact times and dates will be announced after the selection show on May 5. The winners of the regional matches will advance to the NCAA National Championships on May 20-24 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
On the men's side, Azusa Pacific went on a 37-match winning streak against PacWest opponents and reached the PacWest championship match on Saturday. The Cougars have multiple wins this season against every other team in the top-5 of the West Region.
On the women's side, the Cougars had an 18-match winning streak with PacWest teams and then took fourth place at the PacWest Championships. The Cougars will get a chance for revenge against Biola which ended that streak in the semifinal round. They have multiple wins against three of the other top-5 teams in the region.
