AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific stole the show in the opening portion of the Bryan Clay Invitational with a pair of standout performances in the multis, as
Esther Conde-Turpin defended her heptathlon crown and
Lincoln Krog posted a personal-best decathlon to finish third overall.
Two years after winning the heptathlon title on her home track, Conde-Turpin returned to the top of the podium, totaling
5,974 points to secure her second Bryan Clay victory in three years. Her second career victory was highlighted by consistency across all seven events and dominant finishes in both the shot put and 800 meters.
Conde Turpin's day one was powered by a
13.52 in the 100-meter hurdles, good for second overall, and a strong
1.70m clearance in the high jump. She seized control in the shot put with the event's top mark at
13.70m, and ended day one with a 25.23 in the 200 meters.
She carried the momentum into day two with a
6.02m long jump and a third-place finish in the javelin (40.66m), before closing in style with a
2:14.75 in the 800 meters—the fastest time in the field—to clinch the overall title. Her score ranks #1 in the NCAA Division II performance list this season.
Krog Makes His Mark in Cougar History
In the decathlon, senior
Lincoln Krog delivered a career-best performance, totaling
7,539 points to place third overall in a deep, talented field. His score marks the
second-highest decathlon total in APU's NCAA Division II era, trailing only Justin Balczak's 7,550 score set in 2015.
Krog's decathlon was highlighted by an event win in the high jump, where he cleared
1.97m, and a third-place long jump at
7.35m. He also impressed in the sprints, running
10.84 in the 100 meters and
49.45 in the 400 meters, while adding solid marks in the discus (40.04m) and javelin (49.95m).
