APU Shines at Vince O'Boyle Classic

The Cougars take home multiple provisional marks in Irvine.

IRVINE, Calif. – Azusa Pacific's track and field squads delivered standout performances at the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic this past weekend, securing multiple NCAA Division II provisional marks and personal bests at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.

Fischer Fires a Personal Best in Javelin
On Friday, Luisa Fischer highlighted the women's competition with a dominant victory in the javelin. Her throw of 47.15m, a personal best, was more than enough to top the field by 3.87m while also earning an NCAA Division II provisional mark.

Relay Squads Excel on the Track
The women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Alayna Verner, Kiayra Holmes, Nevaeh Williams, and Trinity Miller, clocked a time of 45.94 to finish second in the event. The mark solidifies their standing at 11th in the NCAA Division II rankings.
In the final event of the meet, the men's 4x400m relay team of Max Franklin, Maxime Wassmer, Isaac Shires, and Dominic Gonzalez-Shelmire stole the show with a first-place finish. Their time of 3:10.19 was two seconds clear of second-place UC Riverside and met the NCAA DII provisional standard, ranking them sixth in the nation.
Not to be outdone, the women's 4x400m squad of Miller, Holmes, Olivia Alexandre, and Verner ran a blistering 3:43.11, edging out UC Riverside by 0.75 seconds. Their effort also dipped under the NCAA DII provisional mark and propelled them to sixth in the national rankings.

Miller and Gonzalez-Shelmire Impress in the 100m Dash
Trinity Miller continued her stellar meet with a second-place finish in the women's 100m, clocking a personal-best 11.70 to earn another NCAA DII provisional time. She now ranks 21st nationally in the event.
On the men's side, Dominic Gonzalez-Shelmire surged to a personal-best 10.51 in the 100m, finishing second in a highly competitive race.

Conde-Turpin and Richardson Lead Individual Efforts
Esther Conde-Turpin took home the title in the women's 100m hurdles, clocking an NCAA DII provisional time of 13.69, which places her fifth in all of Division II.
Meanwhile, Hannah Richardson made her presence known in the women's discus, throwing 46.49m to finish second in the event and achieve an NCAA DII provisional mark. Her performance ranks her 14th nationally.

Jordan Matches the Best in Pole Vault
In the men's pole vault, Nicholas Jordan matched UC Irvine's Cole Dinker at the top of the leaderboard with a clearance of 4.50m.
