Another Day, Another Podium

Montana White earns fourth All-American finish in as many days.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The legend of Montana White continues to grow, as she picked up a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle in Friday's action at the NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships, finishing the race in a time of 4:48.78.  It is White's fourth All-American performance this week and the eighth of her career.

For the second day in a row, White quickly recovered from one of the slower reaction times off the block, propelling herself into third place by the end of the first lap.  The senior kept an even pace pretty much the whole way, turning in consistent lap times in the mid-29 second range during the middle laps.  Slowly ramping up the pace over the final three laps was enough to secure a second straight top-three finish, coming on the heels of a second place in the 200 freestyle on Thursday.

Mikaela Maemura also competed for the second straight day, competing in the 100 backstroke.  The freshman hit the wall in a time of 56.43, finishing in 33rd place but earning valuable experience for next season.

White's fourth podium of the meet earned the Cougars another 16 points in the team standings, as Azusa Pacific now stands in 14th place with 69 total points heading into the final day of competition.  White will look for one final highlight of her college career on Saturday as she competes in the 100-yard freestyle.
