All-American Performances Cap Off Successful Day 1

Esther Conde-Turpin set a meet and school record in the pentathlon, claiming the individual crown on Day 1 of the Indoor National Championships.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Azusa Pacific kicked off the 2025 Indoor National Championships with two All-American performances in the pentathlon.

Esther Conde-Turpin broke her own school record and the meet record, finishing with 4,447 points to become the individual champion. She is now the sixth individual champion in the pentathlon in school history, following the remarkable performance of 18-time All-American Nicole Warwick in 2023. Conde-Turpin was just 28 points shy of breaking the all-time Division II record set by Cheyenne Nesbitt last January.

Impressively, Conde-Turpin finished within the top-three of all five events, including three consecutive first-place finishes in the 60m hurdles, high jump, and shot put, where she set a career-best mark of 14.04m. Nearly 200 points ahead of second place, she leaped 6.16m in the long jump to finish second overall in the event, extending her lead to 348 points entering the final event. She then finished third overall in the 800m with a time of 2:19.77 to outright win the National title by 355 points.

Head coach Jack Hoyt had this to say about Conde-Turpin's performance: "By the score you would think it was an easy victory for Esther but she really had to grind it out. She has been struggling with her long jump so to get three jumps over 6 meters was a big relief."

Also making her mark in the pentathlon, Luisa Fischer claimed her first All-American trophy, finishing fifth overall with 3,902 points. This marks her second-best finish in the event, after finishing with 3,949 points at the Silver State Invite to qualify for the National Championship.

Her best performances on the day featured a first-place finish in the high jump, where she tied with Conde-Turpin at 1.71m. She then finished second overall in the shot put with a career-best throw of 13.42m, surpassing her previous mark of 13.23m set in December. Fischer also ran a career-best time of 9.05 in the 60m Hurdles.

"It was Luisa's first All-America award, and she has really wanted that over the past four years," said Hoyt following her accomplishment. "She has had to overcome many injuries, so for her to have such a great indoor season was a big reward for all of us."

In the heptahlon, Lincoln Krog completed a successful Day 1 and currently sits in sixth overall with 3,003 points. He started the day off with two top-three finishes in the 60m dash and the long jump. Krog clocked in at a career-best 7.07 in the 60m dash, improving on his previous best of 7.17 set in December 2019. He will conclude Day 2 tomorrow with the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m.

"Lincoln is showing maturity handling an up and down first day, and not losing sight from the goal of being All-American tomorrow," added Hoyt.

Up Next: Krog will finish his pentathlon performance with three more events on Friday, while Olivia Alexandre aims for a strong Indoor Nationals debut in the 800m Preliminary Round at 11:30 am PT. Then, fresh off her individual pentathlon title, Conde-Turpin will compete in the Prelims of the 60m Hurdles at 1:15 pm.

You can follow the action with live results, and the championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
