SEATTLE, Wash. — Azusa Pacific sent a small group of athletes to the Husky Classic with hopes of improving their provisional marks and for some to sneak into the national rankings. Day 1 of the meet was highlighted by a new school record in the 3000m in which
Felix Perrier improved upon his own program-best time, running 7:58.92, marking the first time a Cougar has ever broken the eight-minute barrier.
Here's a recap of all the action up north:
WOMEN
In high jump,
Eliana Saunders improved her provisional mark with a jump of 1.75 to move up to 8th overall on the provisional list.
Esther Conde-Turpin still sits tied for the top mark in the nation with 1.78 at the Silver State Invitational and Multis back in December.
Competing in her second indoor meet of the season, Jessica Kampman ran 9:43.38 in the 3000m. Her time of 9:39.84 ran at Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener currently sits at 26th in the nation.
Multi-All-American and school record holder
Esther Conde-Turpin ran 8.51 in the 60H but her season-best time of 8.49 ran at the Silver State Invitational and Multis sits at 9th in the nation.
Then, capping off a successful first day,
Trinity Miller outright won 200m, running a time of 24.56. However, her time of 24.16, ran last weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic 2025, still sits at 11th overall in the nation.
Alayna Verner finished just behind Miller, running a time of 24.69. Her time of 24.44 ran at the Silver State Invitational & Multis is currently 33rd in the nation.
MEN
As mentioned, the highlight of the day was
Felix Perrier improving upon his former 3k time of 8:03.57, running a career-best and new school record of 7:58.92, becoming the first Cougar to ever break the eight-minute barrier. His new time currently ranks him 15th in the nation.
Up Next: The team will conclude its weekend at the Husky Classic where ten athletes will compete for the chance to improve upon their previous marks. The rest of the team will open its outdoor season tomorrow at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers Meet.
