MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The team had an impressive showing on day three, with standout performances across multiple events.
Marci Yanagawa,
Angelica Benitez,
Mikaela Maemura, and
Sydnee Wilson took first place in the 200-yard Medley Relay, capping off an exciting day. Reflecting on the relay win, senior captain Yanagawa shared, "Today was such a blessing to see everyone's hard work pay off after such a long season of training. Each success fueled the team with more energy and excitement for the next race, which ultimately led to so many incredible swims!"
In the 100-yard breaststroke,
Courtney Jane Seljeseth claimed first place, earning an NCAA "B" Cut and breaking the school record.
Sydnee Wilson also delivered a strong performance, finishing third in the same event. Seljeseth expressed, "The team's energy is insane, so many of us have lost our voices from cheering so hard for everyone. There is so much pride and love that we have for each other, and it's showing in our races."
Mikaela Maemura contributed to the team's success with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, earning an NCAA "B" Cut and breaking the school record.
Montana White continued the team's impressive streak, taking first place in the 500-yard freestyle and also securing an NCAA "B" Cut.
Kya Guikema joined her on the podium, finishing third in the 500-yard freestyle while also achieving an NCAA "B" Cut. Coach
Tim Kyle reflected on the team's strong performance, stating, "We had a strong day three with many finals podium finishes! Our team has stepped up every day so far and delivered! It was amazing to cap the night off with the first place finish in the 200 medley relay. Looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings."
Additionally, five athletes achieved personal best times, further demonstrating the team's dedication and hard work. Guikema also praised the team, saying, "The support and energy of the team has been amazing at this meet." With every race, the team continues to exceed expectations and build momentum as they move into the final day of competition.
On the final day, the Cougars will compete in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 1650-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle relay, and 1-meter diving.
