Cougars Stay Hot, Freeze Out Nanooks

Rachel Roderick and Audrey Sayoc combine for 35 points as Azusa Pacific uses a barrage of three-pointers and stifling defense to rout Alaska Fairbanks 82-50.

In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Cougars displayed superior depth and firepower, overwhelming the winless Nanooks with a balanced attack inside and out. Coming off a 36-point victory just 24 hours earlier, APU showed no signs of fatigue, shooting nearly 44% from the field and connecting on 8 three-pointers.

Sophomore forward Rachel Roderick anchored the Cougars' effort, delivering a hyper-efficient performance in the paint. Roderick finished with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while also pulling down 9 rebounds and swiping 3 steals.

Sayoc poured in 17 points, draining 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and added 3 assists and 3 steals. The Cougars' perimeter assault didn't stop there, and senior Rome Falcocchia chipped in with 13 points.

The Nanooks struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the pressure, shooting just 39% from the floor. Jazlynn Novelli was the lone bright spot for the visitors, leading her team with 15 points.

The game was effectively decided by halftime, as APU used a 28-point second quarter to build a commanding 49-30 lead at the break. They never let up, holding the Nanooks to just eight points in the third quarter to cruise to the finish line.
