ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – A week after their lone home meet of the season, the Cougars got right back in the pool at the Wyatt Balman Invitational, hosted by Soka University. At this meet, the Cougars and host Lions were joined by former NAIA rival The Master's.
Azusa Pacific jumped out to an early lead, as the quartet of Aleena Herrera, Gillian Sato, Angelica Benitez, and Sydnee Wilson took first place in the 4x50 medley relay with a time of 1:52.87. In the next event on the schedule, the Cougars swept the podium in the 200 free, with Mikaela Maemura, Abby Keller, and Adelle Brush hitting the wall in that order.
Courtney Seljeseth and Marcelina Halawczak then finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke to keep the momentum rolling. Brush then claimed her first heat win by taking the 200 butterfly in 2:14.51. Riley Lawler got in on the fun in the distance events, claiming victory in the 1000 free by more than 40 seconds. And to close out the first-place finishes, Wilson won the 200 breaststroke with a six-second margin over the next-closest competitor.
Up Next: The Cougars will be back in action in two weeks when they head to Monterey Park to compete in the La Verne Winter Invitational November 21-23.
