Another Game, Another Clean Sheet

Cougars edge Silverwords 1-0 to remain defeated in PacWest play.

HONOLULU, HI– Azusa Pacific continued its defensive run on Thursday, defeating Chaminade 1–0 to extend its shutout streak to eight straight matches. With the win, the Cougars move within one shutout of tying the program's all-time record, set in 2001 and matched again in 2013.

The breakthrough came midway through the second half, when the Cougars capitalized off a penalty kick. Victoria Castro stepped up to the spot to convert the opportunity, scoring her first goal as a Cougar. The two sides were evenly matched up through the game, with APU having 4 looks on goal compared to Chaminades 3, and each keeper making 3 saves.

Defensively, Azusa Pacific once again allowed nothing past the goal line. Behind another composed effort from goalkeeper Alexia Muniz and a disciplined back line, the Cougars held the Silverswords to minimal scoring opportunities and secured their eighth consecutive shutout.

The only team to score against APU this season remains the defending national champion Cal Poly Pomona. The last time APU went on a shutout streak this long, the team went on to win the PacWest Conference.
