Clean Up at the Conlan Center

Sarah Wilson leads APU to a 3-0 sweep over Dominican.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.— Azusa Pacific took over the Bay Area with a strong performance Thursday night, sweeping Dominican (25–14, 25–19, 25–14) in a non-conference matchup at the Conlan Center. The Cougars (7–10, 2–4 PacWest) controlled all three sets behind a balanced offensive attack and timely defense to earn their fourth sweep of the season.

It wasted no time asserting themselves, racing out to an 8–1 lead in the first set with kills from Sarah Wilson and Katelyn Sonnier, along with a pair of Dominican errors. APU hit .269 in the opening frame while holding the Penguins to a negative percentage. Brooklyn Kostoff guided the offense with a smooth tempo, finding Wilson and Amanda Albertini for quick points in transition as APU closed the first set 25–14.

The second set was tighter early, with Dominican staying within two before they broke away midway through. Flora Sebestyen and Jackie Winfield combined for six kills, and Mia Medrano anchored the back row with multiple digs during long rallies. A late 5–1 Cougar run capped by a Winfield kill, sealed the set 25–19.

In the third, it again started fast, jumping out to an 9–1 lead on the strength of Trinitee Carrol and Kostoff's serving. Dominican never recovered, as their defense held the Penguins to a -.024 hitting percentage in the frame. Wilson and Winfield would each put away final-set kills to finish off the 25–14 sweep.
