Cougars stay undefeated in PacWest play, take down Concordia 2-1 in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - Azusa Pacific defeated Concordia 2-1 in Irvine on Saturday night to extend its undefeated streak to 11 and climb to the top of the PacWest standings. The Cougars historic shutout streak was extended through 974 minutes, or over 16 hours, before they conceded one against the Golden Eagles. This is the Cougars first win over CUI in Irvine in 8 years.

The Cougars opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute when Jada Preston played the ball down the line to Faith Crouse on the wing. Crouse beat her defender with a touch and carried the ball into the Golden Eagles' box before sending a low cross to the back post, where Zoey Kuhn slotted it past the keeper.

APU doubled its lead right before the break. Alexis Fuller sent in a perfect long ball from 40 yards out to an awaiting Crouse inside the box. She settled the ball and sent it past the keeper for what would end up being the winning goal. Crouse now leads the Cougars with 6 points, while Fuller collected her second assist of the season.

Concordia answered in the 73rd minute, converting a penalty kick off a Cougars handball. The Golden Eagles would continue to press for the equalizer, but APU held tight to preserve the win.

While the Cougars 10 game shutout streak was snapped, they broke the Golden Eagles 22-game undefeated streak at home in regular season play. APU now sits at the top of the PacWest standings as the only undefeated team in conference play with a perfect 5-0 record.

Up Next: The Cougars travel to Costa Mesa on Wednesday Oct. 22 to face Vanguard. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
