SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Azusa Pacific faced one of its most formidable opponents of the season Tuesday night, falling 0–3 (19–25, 19–25, 21–25) to No. 6 Point Loma in a PacWest matchup at Golden Gymnasium. The Cougars (6–9, 2–3 PacWest) showed stretches of strong play but couldn't overcome the Sea Lions' size, defense, and precision in their attacking efforts.
Point Loma, in the midst of their best season in program history, set the tone early with aggressive serving and dominant net play. It fought to stay close in the first set behind Katelyn Sonnier's early kills, but the Sea Lions' .333 hitting percentage in the frame led to a 25–19 opener.
They found more rhythm in set two, sparked by Flora Sebestyen and Amanda Albertini, who combined for five kills. Brooklyn Kostoff spread the offense well to multiple hitters, and Sebestyen made several key digs to keep rallies alive. APU trailed just 15-12 midway through, but Point Loma used a 6–3 run to pull away and take it 25–19.
In the third, it again battled early before the Sea Lions' bill sealed the match. Despite solid defense from Mia Medrano and Makayla Chiechi, who combined for 11 digs in the set, Point Loma's offense proved too consistent, finishing the sweep 25–21.
