LA MIRADA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific dropped its Cornerstone Cup matchup to Biola in straight sets Wednesday night (22–25, 19–25, 23–25) inside Chase Gymnasium. Despite a gritty effort that kept all three frames within reach, the Cougars (5–6, 1–1PacWest) were unable to overcome the Eagles' efficiency at the net.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle with 13 ties and four lead changes.
Sarah Wilson and
Flora Sebestyen provided early kills, while
Mia Medrano steadied the defense with multiple digs. However, the Eagles closed on a late push to secure the opener 25–22.
In the second frame, APU built momentum behind
Katelyn Sonnier and
Amanda Albertini, who combined for five early kills and a block. They stayed within two late, trailing just 15–17, but Biola again finished strong, taking the set 25–23.
The third set saw it faced early deficit, even after kills from Wilson and Sonnier. Biola concluded the match with a decisive run, scoring six of the final seven points to close out the sweep 25–23.
