AZUSA, Calif. — Azusa Pacific dropped a non-conference matchup tonight in Felix Event Center, falling in straight sets to Vanguard (18–25, 17–25, 16–25). The Cougars (5–7, 1–1 PacWest) were unable to match the Lions' fierce attack and extend the match.
The opening action saw them jump to an early 7-5 lead, with Sarah Wilson and Jackie Winfield combining for six kills. However, the visitors were quickly able to even the score, going on a 19-11 run to take the first set.
Set two saw it start with a 7-5 advantage, but again the Lions were able to outscore APU 18-10 to go up two sets to none.
In the final set of the night, Vanguard's Megan Cole took over, picking up four kills as the Lions went up 13-4. APU was unable to keep the opposition at bay, as they would convert their attacks at a .455 rate over the course of the set. It managed just eight kills to Vanguards' 18 as the visitors secured the sweep 25–16.
