AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific flipped a close contest into a decisive win Thursday night at the Felix Event Center, defeating Jessup 90-72. Lauren Jones led the way with a career-high 20 points, sinking six three-pointers, while Kelly Heimburger and Amayah Kirkman each added 16 points.

How It Happened: The Cougars came out strong, establishing an early 17-4 lead in the first quarter, fueled by their high-pressure defense forcing multiple turnovers. However, Jessup clawed its way back to a competitive game, going on a 10-point run to end the quarter down 18-21.

The second quarter saw a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading leads throughout the period. The Cougars came back from a five-point deficit late in the period to enter halftime tied 34-34.

Azusa Pacific took complete control in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 36-15 behind a multitude of three-pointers from Jones and a defensive effort that produced eight steals in the period. The Cougars turned 10 Jessup turnovers into 20 points in the quarter alone to enter the final quarter up 70-49.

In the fourth quarter, Jessup attempted to mount a comeback, outscoring the Cougars 23-20 but was unable to overcome the deficit.

By the Numbers: Azusa Pacific connected on 11 three-pointers in the game while shooting 46% from the field overall. The Cougars aggressive defense forced 28 turnovers, resulting in 43 points. Lauren Jones' precision shooting and Kirkman's perfect performance at the free-throw line (7-for-7), highlighted the offensive attack. Heimburger's nine steals were a crucial factor in disrupting Jessup's rhythm.
