Jaci Maze was honored as the PacWest Player of the Week after tallying two goals in a 2-1 comeback win against Fresno Pacific on Saturday.Â
"Jaci is knit from a different cloth- I've never coached a player like her" commented head coach
Brooke Lincoln. "Two ACL years in two years and she's playing her best soccer. What a homecoming for her last match in the valley! There is no one more deserving of this honor than her- resilient, determined, servant leader is who
Jaci Maze is."
On Saturday, Maze scored a brace in a 2-1 victory over Fresno Pacific. The Cougars entered halftime down 1-0, but Maze flipped the script, scoring two goals in five minutes. Her first goal came in the 47th minute, dispossessing the Sunbirds' goalkeeper after pressing the backline into a turnover. She collected the ball behind Fresno Pacific's backline for an easy slot into the back of the net.
She struck again in the 52nd minute, collecting a bouncing cross sent in from winger
Avery Guiel and sending it past the Sunbirds' keeper to give the Cougars the lead and keep their undefeated streak alive.
Maze now leads both the PacWest and the Cougars in goals with four to date. She is second on the team in points (8).
Up Next: No. 22 Azusa Pacific will travel to Santa Barbara to play Westmont on Thursday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
