AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell by an 8-5 score to Concordia in the PacWest Tournament, and the Cougars will now take on top-seed Point Loma in an elimination game at 7:00 pm tonight.
Cade Marshman went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run, while
Diego Frey was 3-for-4.
Spencer Rasmussen finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.Â
How It Happened: After both starters put up zeros in the first two innings, both offenses had their breakthroughs in the third. The Cougars got things started in the top half, as they put together a two-out rally to score four runs in the frame. Marshman put the first runs of the inning on the board, as he stayed alive with three consecutive foul balls in a full count, eventually lining a ball over the left fielder to score
George Christison (reached on a walk) and
Mikey Easter (doubled) to make it 2-0.
Danny Yanez promptly drove in Marshman with an RBI double in the next at-bat, as he hit a ball that ricocheted off the fence in center. Rasmussen made it 4-0 with a hard-hit single to right field that scored Yanez from second.Â
The Golden Eagles would answer right back in the bottom of the third, taking the lead with a five run inning. After the Cougars were kept off the board in the fourth and fifth, Concordia extended the lead to 7-4 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Omar Lopez would get one back for the Cougars in the sixth inning, as he crushed a ball to left field that cleared the 50 foot net and landed in the Shire Mods, bringing the score to 7-5 Concordia. The deficit would be two for just a moment, as Concordia scored one in the bottom of the sixth.
