Azusa Pacific is back in the PacWest title match, following the Cougars’ 4-0 semifinal win over Concordia.

SURPRISE, Ariz. - Top-seed Azusa Pacific is headed back to the PacWest title match, as the Cougars knocked off #5 Concordia by a 4-0 score in the semifinals on Friday morning. The Cougars are now 21-0, and are seeking to win their third-consecutive PacWest crown tomorrow morning.

The Cougars' No. 1 and No. 2 doubles duos got things going out of the gates, as Elias Emilio Walter and Miha Velicki posted a 6-2 win at No. 1, while Cole Rassner and Brody Bohren clinched the doubles point at No. 2 with another 6-2 win. Walter & Velicki are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches, while Rassner and Bohren have won their last three. 

Constantin Barth kept the momentum going for the Cougars in singles, as he earned a 6-1, 6-1 sweep at No. 5 to put Azusa Pacific ahead 2-0. Barth added another win to his impressive freshman campaign, as he is 16-0 this season with 11 of those wins happening at No. 5. 

Azusa Pacific went up 3-0 overall on the strength of a 6-2, 6-1 win by Walter at the No. 1 spot. Walter, who is currently ranked 30th in the nation, beat Mattis Le Montagner, who is 60th nationally. Walter is now 21-0 this season, and 18 of his wins have happened in straight-sets.

Soeren Grandke punched the Cougars' ticket to the final with a straight-set win at No. 3, where he won 6-2, 6-2. Grandke, the PacWest Freshman of the Year, is 18-2 this season and his last seven victories have been straight-sets. 

Up Next: Not only are the Cougars headed back to the PacWest championship match for the third-consecutive season, but they will also play the same opponent for the title, as #2-seed Hawai'i Pacific has also advanced to the final for the third-straight year.
