FRESNO, Calif. - Azusa Pacific entered Saturday's game having scored 10 or more goals in its last three games, that streak is now four, as the Cougars beat Fresno Pacific by a 15-5 score this afternoon. The Cougars are back to .500 with a 5-5 overall record.
Alexandra Akritidou finished with a team-high four goals for the Cougars, while
Skylar Ford scored a pair of goals and dished out three assists.
Laia Marsinach Ortega added two goals, two assists and a steal.
Alex Airitam earned the win in goal for the Cougars, as she played the first two quarters and finished with seven saves while keeping the Sunbirds scoreless.
The scoring started just 20 seconds into the game for the Cougars, as Akritidou put away her first goal of the game with 7:41 on the clock. At the end of the first, the Cougars held a comfortable 6-0 lead. Azusa Pacific continued to create separation in the second quarter, scoring four goals while keeping the Sunbirds scoreless throughout the first half.
Fresno Pacific finally broke through for their first goal at the 6:41 mark of the third quarter, and they added a second goal less than 30 seconds later to make it 10-2 Cougars. Eight was the closest that the Sunbirds would get, as the Cougars scored three goals over the remainder of the third to take a 13-2 advantage into the fourth period. Over the final eight minutes, Fresno Pacific scored three goals while the Cougars added two more.
The Cougars finished 15-for-31 for a .484 shooting percentage, scoring on three of eight power play opportunities. Azusa Pacific was able to buckle down defensively when playing with a player down, as the Sunbirds finished just 1-for-9 on their power play chances.Â
