RENO, Nev. - On day two of the Silver State Invitational and Multis, five Cougars across the men's and women's teams earned a spot on the national qualifying list.Â
WOMEN
On the track Olivia Alexandre had a standout performance in the 800m, clocking a provisional mark of 2:07.82. Her time not only secures her the No. 1 spot national qualifying list, but is also the second-fastest time ever run by a Cougar.
Senior
Alayna Verner also had a successful opening day, clocking 24.37 in the 200m to earn a spot on the national qualifying list.
In the field, 4x All-American
Eliana Saunders cleared 1.70m (5' 7") in the high jump to hit a provisional mark. With the clearance, she sits at No. 2 in the nation.
Hannah Richardson added a personal best in the weight throw, throwing 16.67m (54'8¼"). Her effort earned her a sixth-place finish overall and she was the top finisher among Division II competitors.
MEN
On the men's side,
Dejuan Walcott delivered a big personal best in the long jump with a leap of 7.28m (23' 10¾"). His performance secured him his first-ever spot on the national qualifying list, where he currently ranks No. 4.
Lincoln Krog closed out the second and final day of the heptathlon, winning the event with 5118 points to hit the provisional mark and claim the No. 1 spot in Division II. Krog maintained his momentum from the first day, running 8.69 in the 60-meter hurdles, clearing 4.05m (13' 3½") in the pole vault, and finishing with a 2:57.23 in the 1,000m.
Up Next: The Cougars compete on the last day of the Silver State Invitational and Multis tomorrow, Dec. 7. A small handful of distance athletes are also competing at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted at Boston University.
