How it Happened: A late goal from
Jaci Maze proved to be the decider in Azusa Pacific's 1-0 victory over Biola. The Cougars dominated the first half, recording seven shots but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Graduate transfer
Faith Crouse was particularly active, taking four shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Biola nearly broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, threatening with a dangerous corner kick that was headed on target. However, Cougars' goalkeeper
Maddie Williams made a crucial save, punching the ball over the crossbar to maintain the scoreless tie going into halftime.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Cougars firing nine shots compared to Biola's three. As the match seemed like it might end in a stalemate, Maze intercepted a slow pass back to Biola's keeper in the 75th minute. From a tight angle near the left side of the penalty box, Maze curved the ball into the side netting, notching her fifth goal of the season and her second game-winner of Azusa Pacific's 2024 campaign.
