SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell 1-0 to Point Loma in a nail biter on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars had three shots on goal and held the Sea Lions to just two through 90 minutes of play. The loss moves the Cougars to 3-4-2 on the season.
How it Happened: Early in the match, Azusa Pacific found a corner kick opportunity and Gianna Ocello collected a shot, but it missed just high. Bethany Tee then found a shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the Sea Lions goalkeeper came up with a save to keep the game tied at 0-0. The Cougars back line held Point Loma to no shots on goal through the first 45 minutes of play.Â
Both sides were more aggressive in the second half, with the Cougars collecting five shots compared to Point Loma's 10. Azusa Pacific pressed down field and Avery Guiel found a shot on goal midway through the half, but it was saved.Â
Katie O'Brien then found an opportunity in the 75th minute, but it was halted by the Sea Lions once again. Point Loma came dangerously close to taking the lead just minutes later when a shot from a Sea Lion player banged off the woodwork, followed by another shot that missed left.Â
The Sea Lions pressed on their final third towards the end of the match and they were able to find the back of the net, taking a 1-0 advantage in the final minute of play. This was the final in San Diego as the Cougars put up a gritty battle against a strong Point Loma side.Â
