LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Azusa Pacific traveled to Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday evening for another anticipated match against a competitive CCAA opponent. After 90 minutes of play, the Cougars and Golden Eagles ended in a scoreless draw. Despite no goals being scored, it was a tight match that saw Azusa Pacific collect seven shots on goal compared to the Golden Eagles one. Avery Guiel, Katie Prado and Bethany Tee each collected a shot on goal, while Rilee Bradbury also had one.Â
"We played well tonight and the girls made the adjustments I asked them to make at half, which created a lot more opportunities in the second half." said head coach Brooke Lincoln. "It was one of those nights where the goal just didn't come, but it was a huge step forward defensively."
How it Happened: In the fifth minute of play, Cal State Los Angeles collected it's only shot on goal for the entire game which was saved by Maddie Williams. The Cougars continued to press offensively and Guiel found an opportunity in the 42nd minute, but her shot was saved by the Golden Eagle's goalkeeper to send the game into halftime scoreless.Â
The Cougars had a more aggressive attack in the second half, and it started right away as a corner kick gave Rilee Bradbury an opportunity, but her shot was cleared by the Cal State Los Angeles' defense.Â
In the 54th minute, Tee attempted to find the back of the net, while Katie Prado collected a shot just two minutes later but both their shots were stopped. Two more shots came in the next 20 minutes for Azusa Pacific, but the Golden Eagle's defense continued to keep the Cougars at bay.Â
In the 88th minute, Cal State Los Angeles pressed into the Cougars box and Williams was given a yellow card, setting up a penalty kick opportunity for the Golden Eagles. With two minutes left and a crucial opportunity for Cal State Los Angeles, the shot banged off the crossbar to keep the game tied.
A yellow card on the Golden Eagles gave Azusa Pacific a free kick opportunity in their final third with just 10 seconds left, but a diving save by the Cal State Los Angeles goalkeeper on Tee's shot prevented the Cougars from collecting the golden goal in the final seconds. The game concluded in a 0-0 draw.Â
